[Kenwood] Question regarding TS450 & DSP-100

Hi Greg, 

First of all, congratulations on your purchase!  Make sure you carefully read multiple times the 
instructions manual of the unit, so that you have got a clear 
understanding of what each function actually does for you. There are settings on the back
 & front of the unit to adjust.

Test: Hookup your DSP-100 but do not power it on. Select CW mode on your
 TS-450. Select the filters on your TS-450 in the 8.82 as 12 KHz (no 
filter displayed) and the 455 filter as 12KHz (12KHz highlighted). Next 
toggle the DSP RX on/off. You should hear a dramatic change in audio, 
and that is your extra filtering done by the DSP!

Sensitive to adjust is the ALC during TX... You will need to find the 
sweet spot on the back of the unit (potentiometer) while SSB/CW ing and 
looking at the ALC on your radio.

Hi David, 

I am sorry, but you very clearly missed the point here... The Kenwood DSP-100 does BOTH TX AND RX
 filtering... Meaning an extra RX filter is added as well as a bonus 
when the DSP-100 has been put in line. That is the major benefit from 
the DSP-100.

I do not wanna be rude, in no way, but have you ever
 tried a Kenwood DSP-100 unit yourself on a TS450 of TS950 radio? Based 
on your comments I bed you did not.

Note: We are talking about 
+10 years old radio where to the DSP-100 is going to be connected to, I 
do not understand your comment about that fact? In example, the KWD 
TS-850S radio and DSP-100 units are not high priced anymore these days 
but still are a killer combo fighting very strong BC and contest like 
close-by signals and still in use by many contest stations as 1st or 2nd
 rig. To me that fact is priceless actually.

One other note: I 
never paid such an high price for a second hand DSP-100 unit here in EU,
 out of the three DSP-100 units I currently have all were sold to me for
 300 Euro or lower. I mean, one can ask 1000 dollars for a DSP-100 unit 
on eBay these days, that does not mean that is the going selling price.

Hi guys........I agree with Greg about the performance of the DSP-100.  The cost of these items used, +10yrs since production ended, is still around $500.  I'm not familiar with the "W2IHY EQPlus" but if it provides A/D/A compression to your audio signal, the DSP-100 wont do much more.
