[Kenwood] reducing power output from a TS-140S usa model

Hello fellow Kenwood users,
 
Per a older TS-140S product brochure... the RF output can be adjusted down to 10 watts, via the front panel controls.  Is it possible to operate the 140S at QRP levels (5W or less)?
If it is possible to do... would any of the 140's other specs be affected and if so, which ones?  I thought about a 3dB out-board attenuator but that would also affect the receive signal.  I do not want to do that.  Any good ideas would be appreciated.  I spoke with Kenwood Tech Support and was referred here.
