[Kenwood] TS930 auto ATU removal

I have a 930 I am looking at for a friend. Radio is a fairly early unit and
has a problem with the auto ATU not stopping. The information I have points
to possible solder connection problems with the variable capacitors. Trying
to get at these to remake them but it seems that I will have to remove the
auto ATU to do so. Does this require removing the big board underneath or
can I get at it entirely from the top of the radio?
