For those of you who are ARRL members, check out the article in QST April 1982 by John Hansen WA0PTV titled "Just hafta Get Myself a Hobby", about Morty and the Cyborg (fully automated radio, just like you describe Rick).

The computers and rigs automatically adjust the frequency, antennas, make
the contact, QSL cards can be sent via email, but such cards should have the
caveat that the contact was NOI. No Operator Involved. Rare DX doesn't
stand a chance these days, they'll stay hidden and quiet.

This is progress? Or is it laziness? Isn't the point to have (even a
short) conversation with folks of similar interest and learn something about
their part of the world (without resorting to the Internet)?

Ah well, back to KW discussion. Any news about a replacement for the TS-480
series? I'm getting close to buying one for my truck but can hold off a few
months if something better is on the horizon. Linking it with the TM-D710
for control from the trailer is high on my list of wants.
