[Kenwood] TH-F6A display problem

I just aquired a used, but in new condition, Kenwood TH-F6A.  However, after the radio heats up a bit (from either being on or from charging the battery) the display goes out on the radio.  The light still comes on, but the characters on the display disappear, leaving a black display.  The display comes back on after the radio has been off a while.

Has anyone on the list seen this same problem, and if so, is there an easy fix for it?
