[Kenwood] Kenwood TS950SDX ALC meter question

While talking for some time into the microphone, the reading on the ALC meter on my Kenwood TS950SDX will gradually drop, and I will have to readjust the mic and processor gain to get back to the ALC setting I  originally had. The drop is not seen on the external output meter, and it cannot be heard when I monitor my own signal. Nor do people at the other end notice any change in audio or signal strength. The same thing happens in my TS850SAT, so maybe this the way Kenwoods of that generation work?
