[Kenwood] Need TS-520 history

If you really need it, I can dig out a? Japanese spec sheet for the TS-500 which was also imported in the mid-60s, I think, by Radio Shack and sold from there. You might speculate the TS-500 was an imitation of the earlier Yaesu FT-100 (yes, same model number), the fore-runner of the FT-101. If you carry it back far enough, I think you'll end up with the KWM-1, which, I believe, was the first to integrate the SSB TX and RX into a single box.

AM transceivers go back to pre-WW2 although these were mostly military, and Ham transceivers were home-brew. So you might ask your question about origins of transceivers (of which everyone will claim their favorite Model XYZ is a classic), or trace the origins. There is probably a Darwinian evolutionary string through which you can see succesful traits (of circuitry or marketing!) that survived and were copied into other designs and products. Then again, that's the topic for someone else's speech, eh?

Good luck and 73,
ERIC
