[Kenwood] TR-751A

New to this list but hope someone can give me some advice.

I just got a TR-751A and have what I think is a software problem. Initially it worked ok on FM, though the squelch wouldn't open, but there was no receive audio in SSB mode. The radio had not been used for several years and thought a good starting place was to reset to manufacture spec's - WRONG. 

I did the microprocessor reset (as recommended in the manual) - big mistake!! Now it won't work in any mode and the display shows 5.190 instead of 4.000 as it should, and nothing works. Suspect the problem is with the "X53-`460 Control Unit" but not sure. I checked the lithium battery and it seems to be ok. Checked the 5 volt regulator and it's ok also. Was not able to detect a signal on 4.194 Mhz next to  the crystal using another receiver so guess the clock oscillator isn't running but don't know why.

What I keep thinking is all I did was reset the microprocessor so wouldn't think it would be a hardware problem.

Kenwood by the way says it's too old for them to service.
