Mike,

I have the 751E and have been down this road and invested a lot of time 
trying to source a replacement when my already scratchy  squelch pot 
went open circuit. The best I could come up was a one off special that 
would have cost more than I paid for the radio on eBay!

My solution was to  fit an external pot in a small box - not pretty but 
at least I get to use the radio! See halfway down this page:
