[Kenwood] TM-V7 problems

Hello, I own two TM-V7A dual band mobiles.  One I bought new about 5 years
ago, and use as a "base" radio, and the other one I bought used about 4
years ago, and have installed in my pickup.  Both radios have operated
flawlessly until last week.  I started having problems with the one in the
pickup, where the display would change by itself, and such the like.  I have
this unit "remoted", with the control head mounted on the instrument panel
of the truck and the radio behind the back seat.  I popped off the control
head and re-seated it and it appeared the problem was solved.  That is until
yesterday.  I noticed the same problem, and later noticed that the radio had
powered down.  I could not power it back up.  I tried the control head on
the other radio in the house, and it appears to be OK.  I haven't had a
chance to do any more trouble shooting yet, but plan to this evening.  This
morning, on the way to work, I was able to power the unit up by pressing the
power button a few times, but the display was "garbled" and it powered
itself down after a few seconds, after which I was unable to get it back on.

It seems like I recall seeing a small "paper-clip" sized reset hole in the
front panel of the radio itself.  I'll try that, I guess.  Does anyone have
any suggestions or ideas on this problem?  I plan on first checking power at
the radio (it feeds directly from the battery, but it's possible the wiring
has been damaged).  Next, I plan on putting the remote head directly on the
radio to eliminate the possibility of a problem with the extension cable.
After that, I'm at a loss.  I really like this unit, and it's features, so I
would like to be able to "nurse it back to health".
