[Kenwood] Possible replacement for SM-220?

If you want to play with a spectrum analyzer you can buy a Chinese ATTEN for
$500 - $600 in new or near new.
They are not as good as HP ot Tek but it will help with basic rf work.
Construction and over all quality is so so. Also, it does not have the
resolution to work as an am/ssb spectrum scope.

Good to know Bob.

Other than using a really nice spectrum analyzer in the Navy (wish I had
that one), I have never used one and have zero experience to be able to
compare anything.

John,

It isn't a case of being a purist for quite a few of us.

The computer switching power supplies and the the monitors, (even LCD),
throw entirely too many spurious signals. I've played with all sorts of
"scope software" both by desktop and laptop. The spurs and background
noise level just are intolerable.

I'll stickk with an SM-220 an BP-8.
