[Kenwood] SM-220 issue had died via Paypal

I once bought an oscilloscope on ebay and there was a problem related
to shipping damage and the seller dithered around and ultimately
disappeared. (Those were the days when UPS basically refused to do
anything. I've heard they are a lot easier to get action on a claim
now) I tried to get restitution with eBay and Paypal and they did
nothing substantive. They got a $20 fee from me which bought me their
sending a couple of emails to the seller asking him to be nice. What
a laugh. It was only then that I began to discover that all the
assurances of safety when eBay is persuading people to open accounts
and shop collapse into all kinds of legal clauses, disclaimers, and
fine print like a 20 day limit to report a problem. You can't even
talk to a human every communication has to take place through a web
form that places a limit on how much you can type. I finally got a
telephone number for eBay and got a human on the other end. Very
first thing she uttered? "How did you get this number?" What great
customer service. Oh excuse me for expecting you to help me ma'am.
How stupid of me to not realize you just want my money and to go away
and shut up. I now only buy on eBay when I know who the seller is,
and I can go see what's for sale in person, and if I win the auction,
go get the item in person and hand over a check on the spot. Which
means I don't buy a whole lot on eBay now, but I no longer get screwed
either. And I save money. I just read a few days ago in the Wall
Street Journal that eBay is hurting because of the down economy. Good.
