The bulbs are not hard to replace but you will need to tilt the front panel
forward.

They are 8 volt bulbs, not 12 volt, and have a green plastic "covering" to
give you the green color.

You can replace them with LED's - I used superbright white LEDS - but the
center of the display is still a shade
darker than the ends. Replacement bulbs can be obtained from Mouser, MCM, a
lot of places.
