you can use a switching supply but 20 A probably will not be enough.   
I tried to run an 850 once with a 20 A supply and the 850 kept  
tripping  the supply into fault.  The PAs in the 850 and 870 need just  
a tad more current, around 22 or 23 A I think.  They are happy with a  
14 or 14.5 v. 30 amp supply.  the voltage drop on the wires to the rig  
has to be overcome and 25 or 30 A gives you some overhead on peak  
power out.
