I apologize for my post to Mike that I openly posted!

It was out of line for the list.

I along with others, have tried to explain this "process" dealing with 
EPROMs.

I began dealing with these somewhere between 1983 and 1984, having 
owned/purchased a foreign clone of an Apple computer.  The "clone" was 
programmed on the EEPROM to place ACME 200 on the screen.  This did not 
allow a LOT of software that accessed the EEPROM.  Two of us got 
together, purchased an EEPROM card for our use.  We read the EEPROM, 
saved the data to disk.  We then used computer utilities toe search 
through the date found the NAME portion, and changed the data to come up 
as APPLE ][.  This then allowed the software we could NOT previously to 
load and run to NOW do so.

The individual with the EPROM burner, obviously MUST have the same 
ability - OR he could not do what he has offered!

I absolutely would NOT alter the data or code, as it IS the heart to the 
operation of the radio!

I went on in 1986, while getting my Computer Science degree, to continue 
to work part-time on computers, performing repairs, re-programming 
EPROMS and EEPROMS along with PALs.

Amateur Radio is only a hobby.
