[Kenwood] TS-790 A display problem

I upgraded (or so I thought) to a Kenwood TS-790 A, dual band multimode
rig, hoping to use it with the satellites, among other things.
The rig itself seems to be working fine, but the display for the "SUB"
band is dead. No display at all. From what I can determine, the rig is
working OK, but I can not see on what frequency it is working.
When I got it, all 3 of the front panel bulbs seem to be burned out (the
1 behind the S meter, and the 2 behind the SUB display). I am waiting
on bulbs to arrive (although I may convert to LEDs soon), but can not
think that is the only problem with the display. Shinning a flashlight
from the back still results in no display. I think it is a fluorescent
display, so I am guessing that the voltage to the display is gone.
Does anyone know if this is a common problem with the TS-790, and if so,
what the normal cure is?
Thanks.
