[Kenwood] DRU-2 digital voice recorder doesn't work

To-day I received the PIEXX DRU-2 which replaces the original Kenwood DRU-2 voice recorder. Due to the very detailed installation instructions from PIEXX installation into my Kenwood TS-850 was easy, but the outcome disheartening. When I press one of the REC buttons, the display shows AP1 -, AP -2 or AP3 -  as it should do, but it does not show the recording time in seconds as it should. Not suprisingly nothing happens when subsequenly I press one of the PLAY buttons. In short: the DRU-2 does not record.

Can anyone help?
