[Kenwood] TR-9130 SSB Squelch, how does yours work?

On my TR9130 in SSB mode, how does your squelch operate? I have one that 
in FM, the squelch control is fine, but in SSB, let's say the squelch is 
open, rotating the control CW slowly the squelch will fade to closed, 
very slowly. It's not crisp and a well defined threshold like in FM mode.

Is this normal operation for this model, or do I have some dried up caps 
in the SSB squelch ckt?
