[Kenwood] 940-VS-1 Voice Synthesizer

Hello all, hope some1 has had this happen so you could help me fix my problem. All of a sudden the VS-1 started saying simplex, minus, plus, neg but most of the time it just says simplex. After the voice button is pushed once it keeps saying simplex about every 3-5 mins until I restart the rig. I've ruled out the voice board & the sub-display board. Could it be the Freq display board? Has anyone had this happen & or does anyone know how to fix this?
