This unit is not working properly, the LED display does not demonstrate the
frequency; the digits display but do not do so representing the frequency is
tuned to.
The receiver appears to work fairly well as I compared the listening antenna
on my Omni V and the 820S hooked to the Inverted L on 160M and the CW
signals heard were definitely pure on the 820S. Using the analog scale on
the the *20S it matched with the frequency showing on the Omni V. The S
meter responds but did not do so as well as I would have expected.
As I haven't touched this radio in at least 15 years, I'm not familiar with
tuning it any more so I did not try. The driver appears to work in that with
the drive at minimum I hear the signal in a receiver tuned to the same
frequency. I did not try to tune the exciter and left the drive at minimum.
The high voltage for the tubes appears to be correct.
It's exterior condition is good from the front but fair-good overall with
some minor dents on the cover and some nicks and scrapes. The last time I
remember using it, I recall it working but I honestly can't vouch for that
considering the display is showing improperly. It was my novice radio and
dates to 1979.
It does have the DC to DC converter attached which I bought separately but I
never did use that feature. It had been used on several field days and was
finally retired when I bought a synthesised radio.
I would consider this radio to be a fixer upper and would only want to sell
it only to someone interested in recalibrating it and who unafraid to do
whatever might be necessary to troubleshoot it. I believe I can get a pdf of
the repair manual which I'd be happy to include.
So with this glowing description, if you have an idea what this is worth
where I get a fair price and the buyer pays a fair price, please contact me
off list so I have an idea and then I can list it.
Thanks,
Gary
