[Kenwood] TS940 BATTERYS

I changed both batteries this Spring.
You do not have to send it back to Kenwood for
re-programming when changing the batteries,
you will lose what you have stored in the four memory banks.
Just write down what you have in each one before you removed the battery
for the memory so you can put the info back in afterwards.

The memory Battery is located on digital unit A.
To get at it, if I remember right:
Remove the screws holding the speaker bracket (4) and move forward or to the
left of the rig.
Then you will have a small circuit board, remove 2 screws and move it to the side.
You will see a cover, remove eight screws and take it off and you then will see the battery,
below this cover.
There is two solder tabs on the battery, also a sticky pad that is attached to it that I was able to use again.
My notes say it is a CR2032 and the other is a CR2450 and is larger than the memory battery.
The reason I replaced the memory battery is that I found that it was starting to leak even though the volt was ok.
I just had to toss away a computer board that was quite new because its coin battery started leaking and ate all
of the copper traces up.
I replaced it this Spring as a preventative maint. thing (no leaks but battery volt was dropping, it had
been in since 2000).
This time I took the battery out and soldered a couple of leads in brought the up to the top and attached
to an old computer battery coin type battery holder and hold it in place with Velcro, this way I won't 
have to go through all of the BS to get at it.
My source of the Batteries was Kenwood, I bought several of them in 2000 and just kept them on the fridge
all that time.

The other battery is located on the right side behind the LCD display, I rolled my panel forward to get at it with my size 12 hands.
You do have to do a re-set after you do this, I think you hold the A=B button while you turn on the power, the re-set \procedure is in the manual.
These days I always take Pictures as I take stuff a part, if I can find these I can me-mail them to you, if I can't will let you know,
just give me some time to see where I buried them.
