[Kenwood] TS-940 Backup Batteries?

I feel a bit foolish asking these questions but it appears that the backup
battery for the memory and likely the timer functions have died. They were
changed some years ago by Kenwood when it went in for service but of course
batteries don't last forever.

Though I have the service manual, I am unable to locate where the batteries
are and of course I can't find the part numbers or spec's in the book.

Though this may be an "urban legend" I recall some story that removal of the
batteries caused complete loss of band information requiring reprogramming
by Kenwood so rather than walk into a problem, is there anything special
about changing these batteries that I should know about and avoid problems
when and if I find the parts?

A further note, I have not opened the radio up at this writing which may
have answered some of my questions.
