[Kenwood] TS850 No ALC action

My TS850 suddenly has no ALC control. The meter reads ALC as full scale, 
and the rig puts out max power all the time. The power control has no 
effect, and the only way to cut back power is by reducing the mic gain. 
However, I can control the output on CW with the carrier control. None 
of the setup pots , VR7, VR8 , tune button, or the "all down" switch on 
the RF board has any effect.
  I'd be grateful for any pointers..
