[Kenwood] TS-940S + ALS-600 ALC Setup Question

I just got an ALS-600. Have it paired up to my Kenwood TS-940S. I'm trying to set up the ALC according to the directions in the ALS-600 manual. I have the correct patch cable connected from the REMOTE socket on the TS-940S to the inputs on the ALS-600.

When following the ALC setup instructions exactly as the Ameritron manual (page 15) directs, the ALC front panel LED on the ALS-600 stays full "ON" no matter what position the ALC limit control on the back panel is in.

According to the manual, with enough drive applied to get 400 watts output and the ALC "set" knob at zero (full CCW), I should be able to adjust the rear panel ALC "limit" pot so that the ALC front panel LED just lights up but my ALC LED stays on full brightness.

I only plan to use the amp for SSB when conditions warrant. Does anyone have an ALTERNATIVE setup for the ALC adjustment I can use instead of the one in the manual?

I'm probably making this harder than it needs to be. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks & 73, Bill, w0ng
