I used a small amount of white lubriplate on my IC735 encoder shaft and it
works well. Yes, my encoder locked up with the shaft frozen. I had to
disassemble it and clean the shaft and housing with fine crocus cloth prior
to applying the lubriplate. Good luck with your effort.
Healthfully yours,

Subject: [Kenwood] TS940S VFO Shaft Lubrication?
I've got a SN904xxxx TS940S with sticky VFO shaft. The shaft rotation drag
is very high and independent of the encoder shaft tension screw position
(i.e. tension is the same whether the drag screw is fully tightened or fully
loosened). I am thinking that the lubricant used by the last person who
serviced it (back in June 2004) has probably gunked up. Any recommendations
for a lubricant that won't gunk up quite so readily? I got a couple Google
hits which suggested Tri-Flo. Is that a good choice?
Opinions?
Thanks,
