Hello and thanks to all my ham colleagues who have been most helpful..I
sincerely appreciate your time, effort and knowledge..
This experience has taught me many things.. one of the main ones being
that
1. Never use a DC power supply without over voltage protection..!
I regards to the transitors..both drivers (1971s) and finals (1972s) I
have learnt the following..
1. There is no diode action between the base and the emitter or collector
at all..its reads anywhere between 180 to 3000 ohms both ways depending on
the trani.. I would expect low ohms one way..and almost open circuit the
other....no so..the same both ways..
2. Even with the diode check on the multimeter...the reading is the same
both ways...(after changing pos to negative etc.)varies from milli volts
to 1.8..
3. So I am assuming that all four transistors are shot...I have some other
similar transistors but do not have final type RF..and the readings are as
I would expect..short cct one way..open the other...
Looking on the net...the transistors sell for about 45 dollars USA
each..which makes the four replacements over $200 australian...This now
becomes an expensive proposition for a 33 year old radio...with out a
doubt it almost makes the raig obsolete!!!...
So in the mean time..I'll keep searching for tranis at a reasonable
cost...thanks..for all your comments...great reflector!!! Keep it up!
