[Kenwood] Kenwood TS850S output and speech processor

Without the speech procesor on I have to turn the mike gain to maximum (position 10) to achieve app. 50 watts output on my Kenwood TS850S. When I speak into the mike, the mike gain amounts to only 1/3 on the ALC-display, and the signal is hardly audible when I monitor the signal on my earphones.

With the processor on and in position 8 everything works fine, and I can 
easily reach the advisable limits for mike and speech processor gain. In 
this case output is app. 90 watts. All other modes than SSB are OK. I'm 
using MC43S and MC60A.

Has anyone got an explaination?
