[Kenwood] 480 mod

Okay, I didn't mean to start a firestorm here. First, I know that you
must have a type accepted radio to operate on marine frequencies if you
are onboard a vessel. This is to make certain that the radio can
withstand the rigors of ocean voyaging. I'm not sure if the requirements
are as stringent if you are operating from a base station on land.
Regardless of the radio, I know you must have a ship's license and pay
the FCC $250 for same. I don't intend to do anything illegal or risk my
ham license. (Worked to hard to get it!) Now, if I want to talk on the
marine HF nets, I have to either buy another radio or modify the one I
have (assuming this is legal) Just seemed logical to me to find out if
it was possible to modify the 480. I've checked dk.mods and everyplace I
know of without any success. Thus far, I don't think I can modify the
480 so I don't need to bother finding out from the FCC if it is legal.

I want to thank all of you for your help. One of the things I love about
this hobby is that you guys always help me out. You even keep me out of
trouble:)

73 to all,
Patti
