Barry,

While you're inside the rig....................Take time to "back off" 
and "re-torque" every screw you can find.  Especially the ones holding 
the printed circuit boards to the chassis rails.  You will probably 
find more than a few "loose" as you go along.  These are often the 
grounding points for the circuit board.  It doesn't fix major problems, 
but over the years and several Kenwoods (including my TS-930S/AT) this 
has been a ritual that has cured several intermittent problems.

I like De-Ox-It from Caig Laboratories.  Some older Radio Shacks have 
it under their name also.  But, remember a Little Dab Will Do You.  I 
NEVER wholesale spray the stuff on anything.  I use a bright light, a 
magnifier and a toothpick to apply the most minute amounts to whatever 
I'm cleaning.  Give it a few minutes to do it's job and if excess 
remains...........use a Q-tip to remove it.  I don't suggest getting 
inside small sealed relays but if necessary use the De-Ox-It to "wet" a 
thickness of brown paper (as in paper bag) and gently draw the paper 
thru the closed contacts several times.  Gently, as the leaf spring 
contact arms can be bent, misaligned or otherwise destroyed.

I had a TS-430S that developed a "hearing" problem much like you 
describe.  Turned out to be dirty relay contacts on more than one of 
the relays on the filter board.

   During the past 1-2 weeks I noticed that my TS-930 seems to lose 
receive
sensitivity on an intermittent basis.  I've noticed the problem on 
160m/80m
but it may be occurring on other bands also.  I can still hear strong
signals but not weak signals...almost as if 10-20dB of attenuation has 
been
switched in.  When the problem occurs, the S-meter seems to get "stuck" 
at
S-2 or S-3 regardless of received signal strength.  Initially, I 
thought it
might be a de-sense problem related to strong nearby signals but it 
seems to
occur across the band and turning AGC on/off has no effect.  I can 
sometimes
"fix" the problem by transmitting or turning the rig off and then back 
on.
I did a Google search and found a reference to similar problems.  The
suggested solution was cleaning the signal unit connectors with contact
cleaner.  I plan to try that solution this weekend but wanted to see if
anyone had other suggestions.  I would also appreciate any 
recommendations
regarding cleaning procedures and brands of contact cleaner.

I've also noticed another problem, which appeared about the same time.
However, I do not know if the problems are related.  The on air, ant 
tune
and notch lights on the front of the rig have also become intermittent. 
 The
actual functions are fine but the lights occasionally stop working.
However, I found that I can often "fix" this problem by pressing down 
on the
top of the rig on the front left side.  The problem does not affect the
frequency display or S-meter lights.  Any suggestions for this issue 
would
also be appreciated.
