Hello to the group,
I was recently given a nearly new TS-930S/AT. Serial number 4,120,xxx.
The rig came from my brother who put very few hours on it since he
bought it new. It sparkles. And works fb, including the AT. Full
power on all bands.
However, there's a glitch. The rig sometimes refuses to tune when the
dial is turned. Display stays the same and if there's a station tuned
in........it stays there also. But, if you PULL OUTWARD on the main
tuning knob while turning it the frequency changes and the rig tunes.
At first I thought the problem was only on the 80m band but I've seen
it on the rest of the bands also.
My first inclination is that the LMO (PTO, VFO or whatever it's
referred to) is dirty or something as simple as a contact is the
culprit.
I'm a Boatanchor (aka tube jockey) enthusiast and I've not ventured too
far into repair of sand state rigs. My Collins stations keep me plenty
busy.
So what say you guru's who know these rigs? I would like to add it to
my operating lineup as it is a beautiful rig and has a great receiver.
The one or two times I put it on the air I received excellent audio
quality reports and 10 over S-9 signals.
Comments or suggestions as to the problem would be appreciated. You
can respond directly, however there may be others who would like to see
your responses.
Thanks in advance.
