Darrel, I prefere to have the antenna tuner just under the antenna to be
coupled: the coaxial cable too works much better being driven at the correct
impedance rather than the impedance of the non resonant radiator.
I think the automatic tuners built - in into (or "near") the equipments are
good to protect the equipment itself. To couple an antenna the remote tuner
is better.
