Use Freeze spray and cardboard shields to try and locate the area of the
digital a board where the fault is occurring. Sounds like it is almost
certainly between the out put of the microprocessor Z80 and the display it
self

Subject: [Kenwood] TS-930 Dispaly Problem
After being turned on for about 3 hours the frequency display of my TS-
930 blanks out when I rapidly spin the main tuning knob "Down" in
frequency. I have adjusted both pots on the main shaft encoder pcb,
even subbed a spare encoder to no avail. I've put jumpers in all the
via's, reflow soldered all joints on the digital pcb, and replaced all
the components in the signal path from the encoder to the
microprocessor. The display does not fail when cold or when I spin the
main tuning knob "UP" in frequency. Other than replacing the digital
pcb, can anyone offer a solution to this problem? Thanks!
