Hi Dennis,

 The TS-930 and other Kenwoods indicate that a phase-locked loop has
'unlocked' by blanking the frequency display.

 I'm guessing that when you change frequency, one of the loops tries to
regain lock, but fails to do so. The logic then blanks the display to warn
you that something is amiss.

 There are three VCOs on the Signal Unit board and one of them might need
adjustment. I hope that this gives you a starting point.
