         Yes...but probably only if you are a
serious contester or DXer.  Casual operators
would likely never notice any difference.  The
FT-1000MP has a 12 kHz roofing filter which I
assume is similar to the TS-870S.  Inrad's
1000MP roofing filter is ~5 kHz.  Read the
following two reviews of before and after
performance (should be similar for the 870):
