[Kenwood] TS-870s and roofing filter

my gut reaction is that it won't get you anything in the way of 
performance to make it worth the money and trouble.   ever since ten 
tec came out with the orion 1 and hyped its roofing filter, everyone 
has gone nuts over them.  i think the point of one is to reduce qrm 
from nearby signals right?  i doubt if a 5 khz wide filter will get you 
much of that. maybe if the skirts are straight down but you said 5 at 3 
db.  you should ask for, and look at a skirt plot.  If they are pretty 
steep maybe; if they are more like 45 deg. angle i'd forget about it.  
just my gut opinion--i may be way wrong.
