Larry,

Check N6TR's TS-850 Repair Page. It lists several common failures including the one you describe. The display problem (due to bad/leaky cap on the display's inverter circuit) is listed at the bottom of the page (last repair tip).

While you're at it, you might also want to check on the most common problem - a leaky backup battery. You won't see any damage unless you look "under" the battery (check for white or greasy residue and signs of missing traces). If you do replace the battery, place a piece of tape on it with the replacement date so any future owner knows it's already been done.

Subject: [Kenwood] TS-850 Display

Hi All;
      I have a TS-850AT that has been a perfect radio since I bought
it sometime in the latter part of its availability and have had no
problems with it. However, I haven't used it for the last couple of
months and I went to show it off to my Grandson today and the display
is completely out, a completely blank display... The unit seem to be
working I just don't know where........ Any suggestions ?
