[Kenwood] TS-430S, what sized tuning steps?

Hi All,

I have a TS-430S which has had the 10 CPs enabled.  I'm using it with a 
MFJ-784B DSP filter for listening to beacons in the LF (200-530KC) range. 
Most of the time I have the DSP cranked down as tight as it'll go (about 30 
CPs bandwidth).

I've noticed something peculiar.  I 'thought' the TS-430 tuned in 10 CPs 
steps, but when I tune a steady carrier, say at about 414.02KC, rocking the 
tuning one digit. from say 414.04 to 414.05 the carrier "beat" may fall out 
of the pass-band of the DSP.  Tuning BACK to 414.04 it 'should' drop back 
in, but usually doesn't until I tune at least TWO steps.  This is repeatable 
and acts almost like the PLL in the TS-430S doesn't actually tune until you 
go two steps back when "rocking it", (although the display changes).  This 
is NOT the fault of the DSP unit as my other LF receiver, a Home-brew unit 
with 11/35 Hz IF selectivity doesn't do it.

While it may be splitting hairs, it's just a bit of a pain if I'm digging 
out a weak one and trying to slide a carrier off the slope of the filter.

Ideas?
