oops.  I just realized I didn't address the USB part.  You will need a USB-serial adaptor, as I don't think that anyone is doing the IF-232 interface in USB.  

On my laptop, I am using a few of the USB to serial adaptors, and they work OK with my Kenwood TS-850's and K2.
