[Kenwood] TH28 A

A friend of mine inherited a little used TH28A

The old nicads have taken a charge and it transmits and receives properly.

It is impossible to put any info into the memory except for the Call channel.

The 4 buttons across the top all beep except the MR button.
When entering a frequency all seems to work except that the frequency is 
not saved
when the MR button is pressed.

I suspect that the memory battery is shorted.

Does any one have any other thoughts.

How hard is it to replace the battery

Any help and thoughts would be apprecicated
