[Kenwood] Bad CW filter?

Here is an issue I haven't seen discussed before.  Is
it possible for a CW (or SSB) filter to go bad?  I
recently bought a used YG455C-1 500hz CW filter from a
ham dealer.  Installed it in my Kenwood TS690, and...
nothing!  I turned the filter on in the menus, but I
hear nothing when putting it in line.  Could the
filter be bad?  Is there something rig related that I
am missing to get it to work?
