[Kenwood] TH79A with no display

TH79A (original) should be the same for the cable.  If by random numbers,
you mean pieces of characters and not real numbers, yes.  My problem was
caused by the "film" style ribbon cable they use to connect the display to
the pc board.  unlatching and re-latching may but probably will not fix it.
I did that several times with partial success in the beginning but with
total failure of any valid display later.  I was convinced it was trash and
replaced it with a new HT.  Faced with actually throwing it away, I removed
the back once again and the cable end from the connector.  I then took a
pair of scissors and cut just a tiny bit off of the end of the cable to
allow the contacts in the connector a new place to bite down on.  FIXED,
first time, completely, totally, always did work fine, just couldn't see
what I was doing or where.  Now I have one more HT added to my pile.
