I had keying weirdness like this a few years ago along with some other 
things and everything went away when I put the rig on a power supply 
that gave the 850 a stiff 14 or 14.5 v. and more than enough current.   
this may not be the fix in this case but if you are running it on a 
p.s. that just meets the rig's requirements and you have a d.c. cord 
long enough for some v. drop (over 3 feet) and/or a poor rear panel dc 
connection the prob. might be in one of those areas.
