It's rare because not many people in the U.S. bought them. It makes some 
sense, because it was pricey for a single band rig. It's a nice radio, but 
with the advent of HF rigs that included 6 meters, it was a doomed concept. 

I guess "rare" is a nicer term than "not popular."
