Greetings,
I have a TS-520 that has started show some odd VFO instability. The
VDC going in is a steady 9 V. The VAC coming out is
steady. However, at times the frequency will fluctuate up to 50 kHz
up and down. Yes, it is intermittent. Some times is does it as
soon as I turn it on...only to settle down...and then act up
again. Some times it is steady until I key the rig.
So, any of you that have seen this, is it more likely that the
capacitors in the VFO have degraded or the transistors? What did you find?
My next step to pull the VFO and check internal voltages and check
cap values. Hopefully, it will decide to act up while I'm looking at it.
73 and TIA,
de WN5T
Michael
