[Kenwood] Beeping D7?

I posted this problem on two reflectors dedicated to the D7, but 
haven't received a reply yet.  So, I'll try here on the general 
Kenwood list too.

I've been waiting to receive an ordered programming cable for the D7, 
but, in the meantime, I set it up for APRS.  It has been working 
fine, but it has a little aggravating quirk today.  I just recharged 
the battery.  This is the first recharge since the initial 
charge.  Since then the radio beeps every other second until it 
receives a signal then it doesn't beep for about ten seconds.  If it 
doesn't receive another signal in that time span it resumes beeping 
every other second.  I hoped that turning off the Key Beep would stop 
this but it didn't.  Now I don't know what to do.  Any ideas?
