I believe your right on this point. I have a Kenwood D700 and a D7 as well.
When I get time I'll check on this.

There are two exceptions to this:
1 if you have a UHF frequency showing on band A you can not call up a VHF
memory frequency on Band B
2 if there is a VHF frequency showing on Band B, you can't call up a UHF
frequency on Band A.

At least that is how mine works.
