[Kenwood] TS-2000 Mystery

I have a friend that has an unusual problem with his TS-2000. The radio
has distorted transmit audio on SSB on all HF bands. The audio sounds good
on AM and FM and even on 2 meter SSB. It sounds normal to him in his
headphones while monitoring. He is not running an amp. In testing, he
reduced the power down to very low levels and still had the distortion.
Again, switching to AM or FM the audio was clean. His HF antennas have low
SWR and he removed all meters and switches from the circuit to eliminate
those items. A previous radio, an Icom 746PRO, worked fine in the exact
position. Any suggestions?
