I had a similar problem that showed up mostly on 15m. It turned out to be a
loose coax connector on the back of the rig. The stock coax connector is
very difficult to keep tight.

Subject: [Kenwood] TS940S Intermittent on 15m

My venerable 20 year old 940 has developed a very annoying intermittent
operation on 15m (yeah, today while I was working 3Y0X on 15m!!!). The
symptoms when they appear are constant, reduced keydown output in SSB mode.
For example, while talking into the mic the modulation disappears and I get
a reduced carrier only signal out. A few months ago I opened her up and
applied DeOxit and reseated every connector I could physically get
to.....being an intermittent makes it a little harder to figure out when
you've fixed something but it "seemed" that the instances of impaired
operation went away for a while but have now crept back in.

It's only on 15m....

Anyone else seen anything like this? I can't take it over to Kenwood East
unless it did it all the time....

Thanks in advance!

Dino KL0S/4

P.S. I did threaten it by telling it I would call AES and order a new radio
if it didn't start working right....it did and I did work Peter I Island....
