         Joe, possibly so for other Kenwood
rigs but not for the TS-930S.  The S/N formula is:

XYY-ZZZZZ, where

X = Last digit of 1980 year, i.e. 4 = 1984,
Y = Production run number
Z = Unit number within that run.

I bought my 410-0398 unit April 17, 1984.
I believe the TS-940S also follows the same
system, but am not sure about any others.
