[Kenwood] TS-870 amplfier interface

Hi,

On my previous 850's I have always used the "12v on transmit" available at
pin seven of the accessory plug to bias an external transistor to switch the
relay line of my amp.  This allows the rig's internal relay to be switched
off for silent keying.  I just acquired an 870 and attempted to implement
the same scheme.  I find when I switch off the amp relay (via menu item 51
in the 870) that I also lose the 12v on transmit at the accessory connector.
Is this normal?  If so, is there a work around?
